Highland maker Aberfeldy is known for its orchard fruit-forward flavour profile, and this signature continues here in this vibrant Soho Selection release. Aged for 10 years in a dechar-rechar hogshead, it offers the abundance of apple and pear, alongside a tropical fruit basket, backed by decadent baked goods. A sweet treat in whisky form.
Tasting notes:
Nose: A fresh, vibrant nose opens with apple, pear and peach notes, set against a filo pastry and banoffee pie backdrop. Vanilla custard and rhubarb crumble notes develop in the glass, accompanied by custard cream biscuits, strawberry leaf and freshly cut grass. Solera ice cream, fruit salad sweets, Solera ice lollies and chocolate eclairs amp up the sweetness.
Palate: The orchard fruit notes of the nose evolve into a tropical haul, with black pepper and a touch of subtle tea set within the sweetness. Strawberries and cream, tinned peaches and lemon gelato come to the fore within a texture that is creamy but never cloying.
Finish: Gentle baking spices and flaky baked goods emerge on the medium-length finish.

About Aberfeldy
Aberfeldy is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky celebrated for its honeyed richness, approachable style, and long-standing connection to one of Scotland’s most famous blended whiskies, Dewar’s. Founded in 1898 by brothers John and Tommy Dewar, the Aberfeldy Distillery was built on the outskirts of the village of Aberfeldy in Perthshire, close to the River Tay. It remains the spiritual home of Dewar’s to this day, while also earning recognition in its own right for a distinctive single malt style.
The distillery draws its water from the Pitilie Burn, a stream that runs past the site and is renowned for its purity and natural deposits of alluvial gold. This soft, mineral-rich water is one of the keys to Aberfeldy’s smooth, rounded spirit. The malt is produced using traditional copper pot stills with tall, narrow necks, encouraging a light and refined character, while long fermentation times, typically over 70 hours, promote fruity complexity.
Maturation takes place primarily in a mix of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, with the warm honeyed maltiness of Aberfeldy’s spirit pairing beautifully with vanilla, toffee, and gentle spice from the oak. The distillery team often uses a combination of refill and first-fill casks to balance freshness with maturity.
Flavour-wise, Aberfeldy has earned the nickname “The Golden Dram”, a nod both to its Pitilie Burn water source and to its signature profile. Expect aromas of heather honey, orange zest, and toasted cereal, followed by a palate of rich malt, orchard fruit, and creamy vanilla. The finish is smooth and gently drying, with a touch of spice. The sherry-finished expressions add dried fruit, fig, and nutty depth, while older bottlings show greater oak integration and tropical complexity.
While Aberfeldy’s single malt is highly regarded in its own right, much of the distillery’s production still goes into Dewar’s blended Scotch, contributing the rich, honeyed heart that defines the blend. This dual role means that official single malt bottlings are relatively limited compared to some Highland distilleries, making them a rewarding find for collectors and enthusiasts.

The distillery’s Dewar’s World of Whisky visitor centre showcases historic artefacts, interactive exhibits, and tutored tastings, giving guests a deeper appreciation for Aberfeldy’s role in Scotch history.
