Part of a thrilling collaboration between Appleton Estate’s iconic master blender Joy Spence and Velier’s Luca Gargano, this 1984 Hearts Collection release is a remarkable bottling. The line-up represents the first single-marque pot still releases from the Jamaican distillery – a ‘marque’ being a specific production format. Most rums are released as blends of marques, this being an unusual exception. Just 1,800 bottles of this beautifully aged rum have been made available, adding to the allure.

Nose: Awash with dark chocolate, tobacco and coffee, this is a dark and decadent rum. There’s a leathery earthiness in with a stewed fruit funk.

Palate: The decadence continues with the sticky, resin-like palate. There’s overripe banana, papaya and dried orange peel in with Christmas spices. More coffee comes through, alongside an almost industrial base note. 

Finish: Long, bold and earthy, with more dark chocolate.
