Glen Elgin 14 Year Old 2008 Oloroso Finish Wilson & Morgan 57.3%

A rich, expressive single cask from classic Speyside distillery Glen Elgin. This one started life in a refill butt, before enjoying a two-year finishing period in first-fill Oloroso. There’s an array of fruit, coffee and mineral tones in with the traditional sherry influence, making this a dram to be savoured. Just 629 bottles have been released so there’s some urgency to this one.

Tasting note:

Nose: Wonderfully aromatic with wood polish, dusty books and beeswax. There’s dried citrus and raisins bringing freshness, but there really is depth here.

Palate: Wonderfully rich with raisins, ground coffee, thick spices and even vermouth coming through. Stony, mineral elements add to a herbaceous quality.

Finish: Very long and elegantly drying.
