Eagle Rare
(0 products)Eagle Rare is one of Kentucky’s most admired straight bourbon whiskies, crafted at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky. Known for its smooth, complex character and exceptional value among well-aged bourbons, Eagle Rare has earned a loyal following among both seasoned bourbon enthusiasts and newcomers looking for a refined American whiskey experience.
Origins and Heritage
First introduced in 1975, Eagle Rare was originally created by Seagram’s and distilled at the Old Prentice Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. In 1989, the brand was acquired by the Sazerac Company, which moved production to Buffalo Trace. Since then, Eagle Rare has been developed under the expertise of Buffalo Trace’s Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley, cementing its reputation as a premium bourbon with remarkable consistency.
Production and Mash Bill
Eagle Rare is made using Buffalo Trace’s Mash Bill #1, a low-rye recipe thought to contain around 10% or less rye, with the balance being corn and malted barley. This creates a sweeter, rounder flavour profile compared to spicier high-rye bourbons.
Eagle Rare is bottled at 45% ABV (90 proof), striking a balance between strength and drinkability.
Awards and Recognition
Eagle Rare has won numerous accolades, including multiple Double Gold medals at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. It’s praised for delivering age-statement quality at a price point where most competitors have moved to NAS (No Age Statement) bottlings.
