Whisky has been distilled in Scotland for centuries and is an integral part of Scottish culture. Accounting for 80% of the country’s food and drink exports worth over £5billion a year, it’s by far the most popular whisk(e)y in the world.
A product heavily protected by the Scotch Whisky Association (SWA), Scotch whisky must be distilled, matured and bottled in Scotland following strict rules. It must be matured for a minimum of three years and be bottled at no less than 40% alcohol.
Scotch whisky comes in many forms, from blended scotch and grain whisky to old and rare single malts. Bottle prices range from £12.99 to £1.5million.
There are more professional whisky distilleries in Scotland than the rest of the world combined, producing an eclectic variety of styles from triple distilled Lowland whiskies to the mighty peat-monsters of Islay
