Armagnac
(17 products)
Produced in Gascony, Armagnac is an intriguing brandy which is more rustic and robust in style than Cognac. It is the ideal digestif for richer meals in autumn and winter such as duck, goose, game, pates, and other Gascon specialities. Often made from the same grapes as cognac, the sandy and iron-rich soils of the three delimited growing areas - the Bas, the Haut and the Tenareze - result in flavours of dark fruits, prunes, violets and tobacco. This weightier, complex profile often finds favour with those who enjoy rich single malts. Whilst increasing in popularity, Armagnac remains excellent value for money and offers a diverse array of producers and styles. Look out for the use of grapes such as Folle Blanche and Baco as well as blends of varieties. Single-estate producers will have their own unique style reflective of the local terroir.
