Mortlach 22 Year Old 1999 Spheric Spirits 54.7%

Mortlach has a cult following – and with good reason. Known as the ‘Beast of Dufftown’, the Speyside single malt is big, powerful and oily, and often with an unusual meaty note. This refill hogshead release is delightfully true to the distillery character. Distilled back in 1999, it’s been aged for 22 years before being bottled at natural cask strength and colour, and with no chill-filtration. The label design comes courtesy of graphic designer Elisa Merino Vazquez. 

Tasting note:

Nose: Toffee apples, pear and caramel come to the fore, accompanied by that signature bacon-with-maple-syrup note.

Palate: Even more caramel, with a meatiness that turns a little earthier. Milk chocolate, mango and a jammy berry quality add a lift.

Finish: Long, with tropical fruit and aromatic spices.
