We really enjoy what Skye-based distillery Torabhaig is doing in creating an honest, great value and superbly made whisky. This release has all the character of Torabhaig that you would expect – bonfire smoke, salinity, maltiness, and sweet, vanilla-led oaky spice – but bottled at a much higher ABV. Named after the river that flows by the distillery, this is the team's first batch strength release.
Bottled at 61.1% without chill filtration or colouring, this smoky expression offers a residual phenol level of 22.8ppm.
Tasting note:
Nose: Rich and bold with all manner of bonfire smoke alongside vanilla pods, a green maltiness, citrus peels and black pepper.
Palate: The smoke wafts on and is perhaps even more pronounced here. Pineapple is backed by marmalade on toast, apples, and a hint of plasters.
Finish: Very long with lingering smoke and hints of pepper.
