A fascinating grain whisky that, whilst it's a single grain by virtue of it being from one distillery, it is actually a combination of three distinct types of grain whisky from the Fuji Gotemba Distillery, Japan's third largest whisky producer after Suntory and Nikka.
There is a 'bourbon style' grain whisky which has a heavier, richer, floral and fruity style; a 'Canadian type' that's medium bodied, luscious and delicately fruity; and finally a 'Scotch type' that's lighter yet 'compelling'. All very interesting!
The whisky also won a Gold Medal at International Spirits Challenge 2020. Here's the official tasting note:
Nose: Aromas of poached pear, rustic fruit tart, Cognac and marron glacé. Water brings out red berries.
Palate: Smooth mouthfeel with multi-layered flavors of poached pear, orange marmalade, raspberry jam, spiciness of rye, and bitter chocolate. Water brings out red berries and a delicate spiciness reminiscent of rye bread and cinnamon.
Finish: Mellow with gentle sweetness and pleasant spiciness, Smooth and moderately long aftertaste with a hint of exotic incense.
