Clarendon 37 Year Old 1984 Thompson Bros Thompson X Auld A 62% 70cl

A fascinating, remarkably long-aged rum from Clarendon made to the unusual Wedderburn marque. Distilled back in 1984, it spent 34 years in the tropics before rounding off with three years’ continental maturation. Despite well over three decades in the heat, the cask yielded 281 bottles at a powerful 62% ABV. A very special rum indeed.

Tasting notes from Thomson Bros:

Nose: Plasticine, pear drops, liquorice, Ceylon cinnamon, beeswax, old oak furniture, ancient dunnage, cognac, raisin sauce, mature game, nutmeg, ‘caramac bar’, muscovado.

Palate: Initially dry but packed with heavy muscovado, cacao nibs, hessian, dunnage funk, shitake mushrooms, raisins, a blunderbuss of waxy oak.

Finish: Long and dry, lots of oak, autumn leaves, mushroom, cacao nibs, 80% Cocoa chocolate, gentian root and dry ginger.
