Tullibardine Single Malt Scotch Whisky
(0 products)Tullibardine is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky distillery with a history that blends ancient brewing heritage and modern whisky-making ambition. Located in the village of Blackford, Perthshire, long known as “the gateway to the Highlands”, the site has been associated with alcohol production for centuries. In fact, brewing records here date back to 1488, when King James IV of Scotland is said to have stopped to purchase ale from a local brewery on his coronation journey.
While whisky production began much later, in 1949, Tullibardine has always capitalised on the area’s exceptional natural water supply. The distillery draws from the Danny Burn, a spring fed by the nearby Ochil Hills, which have some of the purest water sources in Scotland thanks to layers of basalt and red sandstone that naturally filter the flow. This soft, mineral-rich water is a key ingredient in Tullibardine’s clean, approachable spirit.
Distillery Style and Production
Tullibardine’s stills produce a light-to-medium-bodied new make, with a soft cereal sweetness and bright fruit character. Fermentation is relatively long, encouraging the development of floral and fruity esters, while copper pot stills, with tall necks, help create a refined, delicate spirit.
The distillery often bottles without chill filtration and with natural colour to maintain texture and authenticity. Maturation takes place on-site in a range of cask types, from ex-bourbon barrels to wine, port, and sherry casks, giving the brand scope for diverse and distinctive flavour profiles.
Flavour Profile
Tullibardine malts are often described as smooth, balanced, and subtly sweet. Expect aromas of vanilla, orchard fruit, and honey, leading into flavours of malt biscuit, soft spice, and citrus zest. Wine cask finishes introduce richer layers, from the Sauternes’ luscious stone fruit to the Burgundy’s earthy red berry, while sherry casks bring warmth, raisin sweetness, and nuttiness.
Innovation and Limited Editions
Beyond its core range, Tullibardine produces single cask bottlings and distillery exclusives, as well as experimental releases exploring different wine and fortified wine cask maturations. These special editions are popular among collectors and offer a glimpse into the distillery’s creative side.
The Experience
