Glenlossie single malt Scotch whisky is a Speyside gem known for its light, floral elegance and subtle complexity. Founded in 1876 by John Duff, a pioneering distiller who would later establish the Longmorn and Benriach distilleries, Glenlossie sits just south of Elgin, surrounded by the rolling fields of Morayshire. Its secluded location, paired with access to the soft waters of the Bardon Burn, has helped define the delicate spirit style the distillery is known for today.

From the start, Glenlossie earned a strong reputation among blenders for its refined character and reliable quality. Much of its production has historically been destined for premium blends, particularly those from Diageo’s portfolio, including Haig and Johnnie Walker. As a result, official single malt bottlings have been relatively rare, making them a welcome find for enthusiasts eager to explore a lighter, more aromatic Speyside style.

One of Glenlossie’s defining production features is its use of purifiers, small copper attachments fitted to the lyne arms of its pot stills. These recycle heavier vapours back into the still, increasing copper contact and refining the spirit further. This results in a smooth, clean distillate with a delicate texture and layers of fresh fruit, grassiness, and gentle floral notes. Long fermentation in stainless steel washbacks adds to the spirit’s fruity complexity.

Maturation typically takes place in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, which preserve the distillery’s light, grassy character while adding soft vanilla and honeyed sweetness. Some limited releases and independent bottlings also make use of sherry casks, which bring richer dried fruit and spice tones to the profile without overpowering its natural elegance.

The most widely available official bottling is the Glenlossie 10 Year Old in Diageo’s Flora & Fauna range. This expression is a perfect showcase for the house style: bright green apple and pear on the nose, fresh-cut grass and malt biscuit on the palate, and a soft, slightly drying finish with hints of lemon zest and herbal tea. Older official releases are rare but highly regarded for their subtle complexity.

Independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail, Signatory Vintage, and Cadenhead’s have released a variety of Glenlossie single casks, offering age statements from young, vibrant examples to 20- and 30-year-old expressions with remarkable depth. These bottlings often highlight the distillery’s versatility — bourbon cask-matured versions emphasise citrus and fresh malt, while sherried examples lean toward toffee, nuts, and gentle spice.

On the nose, Glenlossie is often fresh and grassy, with floral overtones and orchard fruit. The palate tends to be light-to-medium bodied, with sweet malt, lemon, and subtle herbal complexity. Its clean, crisp finish makes it an ideal aperitif-style whisky, perfect for summer sipping or as part of a tasting flight featuring contrasting Speyside styles.

Our Glenlossie Single Malt Scotch Whisky selection includes the benchmark Flora & Fauna 10 Year Old, rare official releases, and carefully chosen independent bottlings. Whether you’re looking to explore the delicate side of Speyside or seeking a versatile malt for your collection, Glenlossie offers a refined, elegant dram that rewards both casual enjoyment and closer study.
