Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky
(0 products)Glenfiddich single malt Scotch whisky is one of the most recognisable and widely enjoyed whiskies in the world, credited with helping to popularise single malt whisky on a global scale. Founded on Christmas Day 1887 by William Grant and his family in Dufftown, Speyside, Glenfiddich has remained family-owned ever since, now in the hands of the fifth generation of the Grant family. This independence has allowed the distillery to chart its own course, combining tradition with innovation to maintain its position as one of the best-selling single malts worldwide.
The name Glenfiddich means “Valley of the Deer” in Gaelic, a nod to the distillery’s location and the stag emblem that adorns every bottle. From the outset, William Grant’s goal was to produce whisky of consistently high quality, and the distillery’s in-house control over every stage of production, from coopering and cask selection to bottling, remains a key part of that ethos.
Glenfiddich draws its water from the Robbie Dhu spring, located in the Conval Hills above Dufftown, and uses lightly peated malted barley to produce a clean, fruit-forward spirit. Distillation takes place in an unusually large stillhouse containing 32 copper pot stills, many of which are exact replicas of the originals. The tall, slender stills encourage lighter, more delicate flavours in the new make spirit.
Maturation is carried out in a combination of American oak ex-bourbon barrels and European oak ex-sherry casks, with the proportions carefully managed to achieve the desired balance of sweetness, fruit, and spice. The result is a house style that’s approachable yet complex, with signature notes of pear, apple, honey, and subtle oak.
The core range begins with the Glenfiddich 12 Year Old, a fresh and vibrant Speyside malt that has become a benchmark for the style. The 15 Year Old Solera Reserve is matured using a unique solera vatting process, which marries whisky from bourbon, sherry, and new oak casks in a large wooden vat that is never fully emptied, creating a rich and harmonious flavour profile. The 18 Year Old offers greater depth, with layers of dried fruit, baked apple, and warming spice.
At the premium end, Glenfiddich produces 21-, 26-, 30-, 40-, and even 50-year-old expressions, each representing a different facet of the distillery’s character and long-term maturation expertise. The distillery is also known for experimental releases under the Experimental Series, such as the IPA Experiment, Project XX, and Winter Storm, which explore innovative cask types and flavour combinations.
Independent bottlings of Glenfiddich are uncommon, as the vast majority of spirit is bottled by the distillery itself. When available, they can offer interesting variations on the house style, often from single casks or unusual maturations.
Flavour-wise, Glenfiddich typically offers orchard fruit sweetness, honey, vanilla, and soft malt, with older expressions adding dried fruit, polished oak, and spice. Its clean, consistent character and wide range make it suitable for every type of whisky drinker, from newcomers to seasoned collectors.
Our Glenfiddich Single Malt Scotch Whisky selection spans the approachable 12 Year Old to rare, decades-old bottlings. Whether you’re taking your first step into Speyside whisky or adding an iconic name to your collection, Glenfiddich delivers a combination of heritage, craftsmanship, and global reputation unmatched in the world of Scotch.
