A fascinating release here from Islay’s Kilchoman Distillery. Not only has it been exclusively bottled for the UK market, it boasts an unusual cask make-up. The biggest portion is ex-bourbon at 70%, with a dusting of Oloroso sherry with 5%. The remainder is ex-Calvados casks! It’s been bottled with no added colour or chill filtration. 

Tasting note:

Nose: Immediately seaside-like, with wafts of beach bonfire smoke. Honey, citrus and florals come through, as well as the baked apple you’d expect.

Palate: Loads more fruit here, along with toffee, liquorice, and fresh cereals. The smokiness builds with time and the addition of water. 

Finish: The smoke lingers on and on.
