Isle of Raasay Distillery of the Year 50.7% 70cl

A fascinating release here from island producer Isle of Raasay, which is becoming increasingly renowned for its cask programme. Released to celebrate its success at the Scottish Whisky Awards last year, this expression has enjoyed a second maturation in Quercus humboldtii, or Colombian oak. It's also the oldest Raasay single malt release to date, distilled in August 2018 and bottled in the same month in 2023. Congrats, Isle of Raasay team!

Tasting note:

Nose: Sweet and rich, with notes of vanilla, butterscotch, caramel and crème brûlée.

Palate: More savoury spices come through on the palate, alongside coconut, marmalade on toast, and a curious herbal quality.

Finish: Medium length with more drying spices.
