Carpathian Single Malt Commandaria Cask 46% ABV 

A genuinely intriguing release from Romanian producer Carpathian Single Malt. The team used barrels that previously held ancient Cypriot wine Commandaria for this expression. The sweet, dessert-style wine brings an unusual spice to the spirit, as well as a beautiful light copper hue. Prior to the wine cask’s influence, this one spent three years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels from Kentucky. 

Tasting note:

Nose: Bright and youthful with slightly herbaceous spice notes in with shortbread, orchard fruit, and a good dose of maltiness.

Palate: More fruit, this time apple and apricot. Lemongrass comes through later, along with linseed oil. 

Finish: Medium length with that ongoing oily quality.
