Carpathian Single Malt Amarone Cask 46% ABV

Romanian single malt maker Carpathian Distillery has been experimenting with Italian wine casks. And it’s more than paid off! For this expression the team initially matured their spirit in Kentucky bourbon barrels. They then moved the contels into European oak that had held powerful Amarone wine for over five years. The year-long finish adds just the right amount of fruit to this vibrant whisky.

Tasting note: 

Nose: Very obviously a wine cask, there are cherry, raspberry and spicy oak notes in with a softer toffee and a suggestion of cigar. 

Palate: Bold and mouth-coating, it follows the nose trajectory with the addition of a subtle sweetness, and textured black pepper. 

Finish: Medium in length with more woody pepper.
