An expression that absolutely hits the brief of our Soho Selection releases: 12-year-old Caol Ila matured in a first-fill Premier Cru classé barrique. We can’t name the exact producer, but it’s one of the big-name, highly regarded makers – and its impact on the smoky Islay spirit cannot be understated. This is a big, bold, dynamic release, with a stunning interplay between peat character and wine sweetness. A real treat.

Tasting note:

Nose: Immediately smoky, but the bonfire character comes across as elegant with the addition of caramel, raspberry, and a shortbread sweetness. 

Palate: The smoke continues, layered in with strawberry, decadent dark chocolate, apricots, cinnamon, and a slight pine note.

Finish: Long with the waves of smoke drifting on.
