TASTING NOTES BY LOUISE MCGUANE; HELEN MULHOLLAND:
APPEARANCE: Medium gold
NOSE: A smooth intriguing aroma combining apple, dried fruit, warming cinnamon spice and burnt sugar sweetness, a hint of oak signals that you are about to taste something very special.
PALATE: Only a malt whiskey of this age could provide the smooth subtle warmth that builds. The years of maturation have rounded and refined the liquid creating a lightness as you are seamlessly guided through rich creamy raisins, toasted almonds and dark chocolate.
FINISH: The comforting warmth remains, the dark chocolate now with a touch of bitterness, fruit cake combining the raisins and nuts returns before cleanly disappearing leaving you with the memory.

About JJ Corry
J.J. Corry is Ireland’s leading modern whiskey bonder, reviving a historic tradition that almost disappeared during the 20th century. Founded in 2015 by Louise McGuane on the family farm in County Clare, the company takes its name from John James Corry, a 19th-century local merchant, publican, and bicycle-maker who also sourced and sold whiskey from his shop in the town of Kilrush. By naming the brand after him, McGuane pays tribute to a bygone era when independent bonders were central to Irish whiskey culture.
In the 1800s and early 1900s, most Irish distilleries sold their spirit wholesale to local grocers, pubs, and bonders, who would mature and blend it under their own labels. This system collapsed after the Irish whiskey industry’s decline in the mid-20th century, leaving distilleries to handle bottling themselves. McGuane set out to bring bonding back, sourcing new make and mature spirit from different distilleries, ageing it on-site in County Clare, and creating bespoke blends and single cask releases.
The J.J. Corry approach is highly curation-focused. McGuane works with distilleries across Ireland to select malt, grain, and pot still whiskey at different stages of maturity. These are then matched with casks sourced from around the world — including first-fill bourbon barrels from Kentucky, oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry butts from Spain, port pipes from Portugal, and custom-seasoned wine casks. The damp, temperate Atlantic climate of County Clare provides ideal maturation conditions, while the variety of cask types allows for a broad palette of flavours.
Flavour profiles in J.J. Corry bottlings reflect McGuane’s belief that blending is an art equal to distilling. The Gael, for example, balances the creamy vanilla of grain whiskey with the orchard fruit and spice of malt, while The Hanson offers vibrant lemon zest, green apple, and gentle sweetness. Higher-aged single casks can reveal tropical fruit, honey, and deep wood spice, while wine and sherry casks bring darker fruit and nutty depth.
Transparency is a key value for J.J. Corry, every release clearly states the types of whiskey used, the distilleries of origin when possible, and the cask makeup. This openness, combined with a consistently high standard of flavour, has made the brand a favourite among both Irish whiskey newcomers and seasoned collectors.
Our J.J. Corry selection features the flagship blends alongside limited single cask expressions, each representing a unique facet of Ireland’s whiskey renaissance. Whether you’re drawn to bright, citrusy grain blends, mature malt complexity, or rare bespoke bottlings, J.J. Corry offers a modern revival of an important Irish tradition, a whiskey bonder’s craft brought vividly back to life on the windswept Atlantic coast.
