An experimental release from Islay’s Bruichladdich Distillery under its Port Charlotte brand. Why experimental? It’s the first time Port Charlotte Spirit has been matured in Pomerol wine casks! The wood brings an abundance of complex fruit to the whisky, with the gentle smoke still shining through. An essential taste if you’re a fan of wine cask-matured whiskies.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Red fruits burst from the glass along with geranium, honey, toasted oak, marzipan and a gentle plume of smoke.
Palate: There’s a wonderfully viscous mouthfeel – almost sticky Plump blackberries and strawberries lift the denser smoke, and there’s even a dusting of leather.
Finish: Long with lingering citrus peel and peat smoke.
