Old Orkney Malt 13 Year Old Whisky Sponge 50% ABV
‘Old Orkney’ started life as an old blended Scotch whisky brand last seen around the 1990s. The Whisky Sponge has brought it back to life for 2023! The label references an old ad poster for the original brand. The whisky itself is actually a single malt, distilled back in 2009 and matured in a first-fill bourbon barrel for its full 13 years.
Tasting note:
Nose: Like fresh air with distant bonfire smoke, there’s citrus peel, coconut and a smattering of black pepper, too.
Palate: More florals come through on the palate, alongside a subtle olive brine quality. Salted caramel, popcorn and gentle baking spices come through, too.
Finish: Medium length with gentle lingering smoke.
