Octomore 14.3 61.3% 70cl
A remarkably heavily peated expression (even by Octomore standards!) from Bruichladdich’s ongoing series. It combines the heft of earthy peat alongside an array of fresher stone and orchard fruit notes for stunning complexity. It is made using Concerto barley grown on Islay - in fact, at the nearby Octomore farm!. It’s peated to a whopping 214.2ppm, and was aged for five years in 50% first-fill ex-American whisky casks, and 50% second-fill wine casks. A flavour-forward phenomenon!
Tasting notes:
Nose: Immediately beach bonfire smoke jumps from the glass, alongside biscuit-like malt notes, while peach, pear and green apple all swim in honey.
Palate: The bonfire becomes more smouldering and the malt greener. Porridge notes also come through alongside vanilla and a pecan nuttiness.
Finish: Smoke lingers long, alongside an earthy oak and caramel.
