Macduff 13 Year Old 2009 Càrn Mòr Oloroso Sherry 47.5% ABV
A terrific expression from Highland Scotch distillery Macduff. The refill Oloroso casks produce a gentler dram than you might expect, but it offers all the warmth and complexity the cask style is known for. Macduff’s own distillery bottlings are often called The Deveron. This one’s been released by independent bottler Càrn Mòr.
Tasting note:
Nose: Christmas cake spices, nutmeg, plum, raisins, honeysuckle and marzipan all emerge from the glass.
Palate: The marzipan gets even nuttier on the palate, and the fruits get darker and more stewed. Apricots, walnut and clove are most prominent.
Finish: Long and lingering with warm spices.
