A fabulous independently bottled Macallan here from Gordon & Maphail, released under its Speymalt label. Sherry cask number #3241 yielded just 226 bottles, and it’s an unctuous, nutty, powerfully rich release from the classic Speyside distillery. The Macallan at its best.
Tasting note:
Nose: Lashings of honey, dates and chocolate-coated toffees, along with plum, cinnamon, star anise and nutmeg.
Palate: Lots of dried dark fruits – sultanas, more dates – with marzipan, freshly ground coffee beans, pecans and a hint of crispy bacon.
Finish: Incredibly long with more coffee, dark chocolate and dusty incense.
