Dun Dearg 5 Year Old Islay Blended Malt Chorlton Whisky 56.9% ABV

A new release from independent bottler Chorlton Whisky, Dun Dearg is a young, flashy, vibrant Islay blended malt. While the recipe hasn’t been made public, we do know it is two-thirds a “very famous” south coast distillery topped up with a 15-year-old single malt from the east of the island. And intriguingly delicious dram, and one of just 507 bottles.

Tasting note:

Nose: Tunnocks tea cakes with honey, tar and pungent, smoked olive oil. There’s charred vegetation in with the sweetness.

Palate: A big, oily texture with burnt citrus peels, chocolate cake, cigars and soy sauce all coming through.

Finish: Long and fruity, even with a touch of mint towards the end.
