Del Maguey Cask Finish San Luis Del Rio 42% ABV

An intriguingly unusual bottling here from Del Maguey, the champion of village-made mezcal. This has been made from Espadín agave, naturally fermented, and then double-distilled in wood-fired stills. It was then aged for four months in casks that previously held Stitzel-Weller wheated bourbon! Highly sought after, and well worth adding to the agave collection.

Nose: Initially floral and grapefruit notes come through, followed by a barbequed meaty smokiness.

Palate: The meaty becomes more bacon-like, before the nutty softness of the wheat influence comes through. It’s all lifted by some aromatic citrus peels.

Finish: Long, industrial and grippy.
