An exciting single cask release from renowned independent bottler Wemyss Malts. Highland distillery Blair Athol is known for its robust sweetness due its use of sherry casks, and this charmingly named Jam on Toast bottling does not disappoint. Laid down in a first-fill sherry hogshead in 1991, this vibrant, gloriously aged release balances a boisterous distillery character with the elegance gained from thirty years in cask. A joyful Scotch, bottled at natural cask strength.
Nose: Luscious plum gives way to sultanas, almonds and dried orange peel, all grounded by a savoury, earthy note. A sprinkling of pepper spice comes through, too.
Palate: Syrupy raspberries and marmalade are balanced beautifully by the robustness of tobacco leaves. Even greater complexity comes through with nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom and a dash of star anise.
Finish: Long and winding, with more jammy fruit, sweet spices, and an elegant, drying oak.
