Appleton Estate 17 Year Old Legend 49% ABV
A remarkable – and rare – rum here from Jamaica’s renowned Appleton Estate distillery. Master blender Joy Spence crafted this bottling to recreate the rum used in the original Mai Tai, back in the 1940s! To do so she selected four parcels from the Appleton Estate rum library, and blended them to offer the same rich, pungent, complex drinking experience but in the modern day. Only 1,500 bottles have been released globally, making 17 Year Old Legend an essential purchase for the serious collector.
Tasting note:
Nose: Incredibly bold, rich and funky – initially there’s a savoury salinity, before overripe tropical fruit, plummy jam and pear arrive.
Palate: Bold with a weighty mouthfeel, there are notes of mango, papaya, clove, herbal lushness and a suggestion of smoke.
Finish: Hugely long with more fruit and funk.
