Tun 89 Teaspooned Malt 36 Year Old 1989 Milroy's Vintage Reserve 52.4% 70cl

We select and bottle Vintage Reserve spirits in celebration of classic distillates from golden whisky eras. And while we can’t disclose exactly which renowned Speyside distillery this beautifully aged, teaspooned blended malt came from, it truly fits that brief. The maker is renowned for its finishing expertise, but here we have an example of long refill American oak maturation without a powerful cask influence. Instead there’s an abundance of elegant fruit with ethereal honey and a smattering of earthiness. Delightful.

Tasting notes:

Nose: There’s an abundance of green fruits on the nose: apples, gooseberries, pears. Croissants and jam tarts continue the decadently sweet theme, along with honey, white chocolate, and caramelised pecans. With time, a grassiness emerges backed by tropical fruits, toasted oak, and some deep earthy notes.

Palate: The vibrancy continues on the palate, whipped up by fresh orchard fruits, black pepper and chilli chocolate. There’s a fascinating waxiness, a hint of doughy cake mix, and a bagful of sweet-shop liquorice. Cinnamon, dandelion and burdock and ginger add detail.

Finish: Medium to long with meandering oak spices and lingering orchard fruits.
