Known as the “Grande Dame of Champagne,” she revolutionised winemaking techniques, most famously perfecting the remuage (riddling) process, which clarified Champagne and set the standard for sparkling wine production worldwide. She also created the first known blended rosé Champagne in 1818, cementing Veuve Clicquot’s reputation for innovation.

Veuve Clicquot’s vineyard holdings span over 390 hectares across some of Champagne’s finest crus, with a strong emphasis on Pinot Noir, which gives the house style its hallmark structure, body, and intensity. Chardonnay adds elegance and finesse, while Pinot Meunier contributes fruitiness and approachability. The cellar master and winemaking team carefully blend wines from these varietals, drawing from multiple vintages to achieve balance and complexity.

A defining feature of Veuve Clicquot’s style is the use of a high proportion of reserve wines, some aged up to 20 years, which adds depth and consistency to the Brut Yellow Label, the house’s flagship expression. Ageing takes place in the extensive chalk cellars beneath Reims, where bottles mature for at least 30 months (far longer for vintage and prestige cuvées) in perfect conditions of temperature and humidity.

Flavour-wise, Veuve Clicquot Champagnes are known for their fullness, richness, and balance. Expect a nose of ripe orchard fruit, citrus zest, and toasted brioche, followed by a palate of apple, pear, honey, and subtle spice, all underpinned by a creamy mousse and long finish.
