Production takes place at Hacienda Patrón in the Jalisco Highlands (Los Altos), a region renowned for its mineral-rich red volcanic soil and favourable climate for growing Blue Weber agave. The highland terroir produces larger agave piñas with higher sugar content, resulting in a sweeter, more floral spirit than lowland tequilas.

Patrón’s process begins with the careful selection and hand-harvesting of mature agave plants, typically aged between 7 and 10 years. Once harvested, the piñas are slowly baked in small brick ovens for around three days, a traditional method that caramelises the sugars and develops deeper flavour. The cooked agave is then crushed using a combination of the ancient tahona (a volcanic stone wheel) and more modern roller mills, balancing earthy, full-bodied flavours with cleaner, lighter notes.

Fermentation takes place in open wooden vats, allowing natural yeast to contribute to the tequila’s complexity, before distillation in small copper pot stills. The emphasis throughout is on small-batch production and quality control at every stage.

Patrón’s flavour profile is generally smooth, balanced, and approachable, making it a favourite both for sipping neat and for elevating cocktails like the Margarita, Paloma, or Tequila Old Fashioned. The brand’s commitment to consistency means that every bottle delivers a recognisable house character, regardless of batch.

Presentation has also been key to Patrón’s identity. Each bottle is hand-numbered and crafted from recycled glass, with distinctive cork stoppers and minimalist labels that have become iconic in bars and homes worldwide.

Sustainability initiatives at Hacienda Patrón include recycling agave fibres into fertiliser, treating and reusing water, and using eco-friendly packaging. This aligns with growing consumer interest in environmentally responsible luxury goods.
