Hendrick’s is one of the most recognisable premium gin brands in the world, celebrated for its distinctive infusion of cucumber and rose, its quirky Victorian-era branding, and its boundary-pushing approach to gin-making. Produced in Girvan, Scotland, by William Grant & Sons, Hendrick’s has redefined the gin category since its launch in 1999, attracting both cocktail enthusiasts and casual gin drinkers with its unique style.

A Different Kind of Gin

When Master Distiller Lesley Gracie developed Hendrick’s, the goal was to create a gin that broke away from the traditional juniper-dominant profile without losing the integrity of a true London Dry-style spirit. The result was a balanced, aromatic gin that retained juniper at its core but introduced unusual, fresh floral and vegetal notes.

This was achieved by blending two different distillation styles:
• Bennett Still - a small copper pot still that produces a rich, complex, and heavy spirit.
• Carter-Head Still - a rare still design that vapour-infuses botanicals for a lighter, more delicate flavour.

The two distillates are then married together and infused with Bulgarian rose and cucumber essence, Hendrick’s defining touch.

The Botanical Mix

While the exact recipe remains a closely guarded secret, Hendrick’s uses 11 botanicals from around the world, including juniper, coriander seed, angelica root, cubeb berries, chamomile, elderflower, and orange peel. The post-distillation infusion of cucumber and rose petals sets Hendrick’s apart from other premium gins, giving it its signature crisp, floral, and refreshing profile.

Serving Suggestions

Hendrick’s is famously served in a gin and tonic with cucumber rather than the traditional lime or lemon, which accentuates its fresh, crisp character. It also works beautifully in martinis, negronis, and lighter spritz-style serves.
