But now a direct descendant of Nearest Green, the US’s first African American distiller who taught a certain Jack Daniel to make whiskey, is expanding the category! Master blender Victoria Eady Butler was inspired by her past to found the Uncle Nearest brand. And this small-batch release is a must-try.

Tasting note:

Nose: Gently warming with honey, orange peel, ground ginger, pepper, brown sugar and a touch of fresh tobacco.

Palate: Lots of caramel along with milk chocolate, cinnamon, nutmeg and marshmallow, with a soft wood tannin adding depth

Finish: Medium length with lingering cinnamon.
