Lochlea Cask Strength Batch 1 60.1% ABV

Family-owned grain-to-glass producer Lochlea has amped up the ABV with its first Cask Strength single malt release! The celebrated Lowland producer carefully selected this expression, which was initially matured in first-fill ex-bourbon barrels before being transferred to an ex-Oloroso butt. Master blender John Campbell, formerly of Laphroaig fame, describes the 60.1% release as a “bold yet elegant spirit” – and we definitely agree. Pick up a bottle if you like powerful, fruit-forward whiskies.

Tasting note:

Nose: Rich, concentrated berries with freshly ground coffee beans, Brazil nuts, and even a suggestion of soft cigar.

Palate: A hint more citrus arrives, along with dark chocolate, plums, figs and raisins. Oak shavings and Christmas spices add depth.

Finish: Medium to long with nutmeg coming through.
