Kilkerran 8 Year Old Bourbon Cask Strength 55.8%

Mitchell’s Glengyle – which makes Kilkerran – is often described as Scotland’s ‘newest old distillery’. It reopened in 2004 long before the distilling boom we see now (and decades after it was closed in 1925!). We’re pleased it’s back because it produces wonderful whiskies in its Campeltown location. This 100% bourbon cask, lightly peated single malt is just one example! It’s bottled at natural colour with no chill-filtration. An essential for fans of the Scotch whisky region.

Nose: There are both lush, fresh green apple notes, and a gentle bonfire smoke aroma from the peat. Rhubarb, shortbread and caramel notes all follow.

Palate: A good waft of sweet pastry notes come through, along with milk chocolate, pecan and apricot. The apple becomes more stewed, the bonfire smoke more distant.

Finish: Medium length with a smoky liquorice suggestion.
