Deanston is a modern distillery founded in the 1960s on the site of an old cotton mill. Ever the innovative production style, they were early pioneers of experimenting with organic barley and became Scotland's first distillery to be self-sufficient in electricity, generated onsite by a hydro-energy facility.
Deanston has taken the whisky world by storm in recent years, releasing a series of exceptional releases that are un-chill filtered and full of its distinct highland character.
The 18 Year Old is a well-aged example of Deanston whisky from the highland region. Creamy and rich with a delicate floral undertone and syrup-like mouthfeel. The distillate shines with waxed fruits interplaying with Sherried spice.
Nose: Aromatic with light soft fruits, barley sugar twists, A very refreshing springtime freshness flows into the nose‚ A fantastic aroma, some gentle citrus peel with hints of ginger root.
Plate: Clean fresh citrus, vanilla with a delicious shortcake and lemon drizzle profile, some pineapple and strawberry hard candy with a butterscotch twist coat the mid palate, some classic honey and ginger notes with a superb hazelnut and toffee brittle note to round this dram off to a nice finish.
