Caol Ila 2009 G&M Sassicaia Wine Cask Finish 45% 70cl
Nose: Sweet coastal notes, some cured and slightly smoked meats, with a touch of lemon peel adding a superb freshness to the top notes, with a hint of white truffle and dark fruits, cinnamon and with some rather nicely balanced smoke and charred oak, sweet spices and hard toffee.
Palate: Crushed black and pink peppercorns, soft spices and warming soft sweet smoke, with an abundance of autumnal forest fruits, spices and rich toasted oak and sweet under notes of peat and citrus, a lovely lingering mid palate of citrus fruits, hints of melon and lime, more classic Islay notes of sweet smoke and peat making a final and lingering appearance on the finish.
This is a superb Caol Ila so taste driven and perfectly balanced from the start to the lingering rich finish.
