An essential for fans of bold, smoky whiskies, this Finglassie – or peated Inchdairnie – has had its phenol count amped up even further with maturation in an ex-Islay barrel. At four years old it’s got all the heft of youth, coupled with the power of the elegant Inchdairnie spirit. There’s simply nothing else like this out there.
Tasting notes:
Nose: Bold and powerful, with smoky vinyl and a herbal peat lifted by scorched rosemary, rhubarb and a dusty liquorice. There’s a roadwork influence along with olive brine, too.
Palate: Dense smoke full of barbecued meats and bacon open the palate, with citrus, boiled sweets, and jammy berries providing some top notes. Mineralic, petrichor notes underscore the savour elements alongside freshly-laid tarmac and apple sauce.
Finish: Incredibly long with that more of that roadwork smoke

About Inchdairnie
InchDairnie is one of Scotland’s most forward-thinking whisky distilleries, a Fife-based producer blending centuries-old Scottish tradition with cutting-edge technology to create a distinctive, modern single malt. Founded in 2015 by Ian Palmer, a veteran of the whisky industry, InchDairnie was built from the ground up to focus on innovation, precision, and flavour exploration.
A New Vision for Scotch Whisky
Unlike many distilleries that adapt existing facilities, InchDairnie was designed entirely around its production philosophy. Palmer’s aim was to combine traditional Scottish whisky-making principles with advanced engineering to push the boundaries of flavour while maintaining authenticity.
The distillery sits near the town of Glenrothes, in the Kingdom of Fife, an area with a rich but often overlooked whisky heritage. InchDairnie draws on local resources, using barley grown in Fife and water sourced from nearby boreholes, ensuring a strong sense of place in every drop.
Precision in Production
InchDairnie’s production process blends time-honoured methods with high-tech refinements:
• Lauter mash tun - allows highly efficient extraction of sugars from the grain.
• Mash filter - a rarity in Scotch whisky production, increasing yield and clarity of wort.
• Custom-designed Lomond still - a tall, adjustable-neck still that allows fine control over reflux, creating a clean, fruity spirit.
• Winter barley varieties - used to create distinctive flavour profiles and highlight the character of local grain.
InchDairnie also employs a double condensate cooler system, enabling precise temperature control during distillation and capturing specific flavour compounds.
Innovation with Tradition
While the distillery won’t release its flagship single malt until it has matured fully (planned for 2029), InchDairnie has already gained attention for experimental seasonal spirits:
• Ryelaw - Scotland’s first rye whisky to be made under Scotch Whisky Regulations, distilled with a mash bill of 53% rye and 47% malted barley. Released in small quantities to showcase the versatility of Scottish whisky-making.
• KinGlassie - a peated malt spirit produced for blending and experimental bottlings, demonstrating the distillery’s flexibility in style.
These releases allow InchDairnie to explore flavour potential while their core single malt matures.
Sustainability and Local Commitment
From the outset, InchDairnie has aimed for efficiency and environmental responsibility. Local sourcing reduces transport impact, energy use is optimised through heat recovery systems, and spent grain is repurposed as animal feed.
What to Expect from InchDairnie Whiskies
Although the core single malt is still in the cask, early spirit character suggests a clean, fruit-driven profile with citrus, orchard fruit, and gentle malt sweetness. The distillery’s rye expressions lean spicier, with clove, pepper, and nutty depth.
Collectors and whisky enthusiasts are watching InchDairnie closely — not just for its inaugural release, but for its role in shaping the future of modern Scotch.
