Voodoo Whisky Range
(4 products)In recent years, independent bottlers have played an increasingly influential role in Scotch whisky, offering drinkers access to distinctive cask selections and alternative interpretations of well-known distillery styles. Among these fresher voices is Brave New Spirits, a Glasgow-based company founded by industry veterans with a clear focus on adventurous wood management and expressive flavour profiles.
One of its most distinctive ranges is Whisky of Voodoo – a series of small-batch single malts and single grains designed to highlight unusual cask maturation and bold character. With evocative occult-themed labels and carefully selected casks sourced from around the world, the range captures both tradition and experimentation in modern Scotch whisky.
Origins and development
Brave New Spirits emerged in the early 2020s with the aim of showcasing Scotch whisky through unconventional maturation and limited-edition bottlings. While Scotland’s distilleries provide the spirit, the company’s identity lies in cask selection, finishing techniques, and presentation.
The Whisky of Voodoo range launched around 2022 and quickly gained attention for its dramatic aesthetic and flavour-forward approach. Recognition through industry tastings and international competitions helped establish the series as a notable presence among independent bottlings.
Initially, many bottlings kept their source distilleries undisclosed – a common practice among independent bottlers. More recent expressions now declare the distillery name alongside region and age statement, increasing transparency while preserving a sense of discovery.
A philosophy shaped by wood
At the heart of the Whisky of Voodoo series is Brave New Spirits’ wood policy – an approach that emphasises the influence of active, high-quality casks on maturation and flavour development.
Whiskies are matured and finished in a range of carefully sourced casks, including first-fill bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry casks, Bordeaux wine barriques, new oak, and port or other wine-seasoned casks. Some casks previously held prestigious Bordeaux wines, contributing layered fruit character and subtle tannic structure.
Creative vatting – combining whisky from different cask types – is also used to unlock additional complexity and balance.
Each bottling is presented in small batches with a declared age statement, region, and distillery. They are bottled at natural or cask strength, often approaching 59% ABV, and are non-chill filtered with natural colour to preserve texture, aroma, and mouthfeel.
Style and flavour identity
Although each expression reflects its distillery of origin, the series is united by a focus on bold, cask-driven profiles. Wine and sherry casks contribute rich fruit depth, while virgin oak adds spice and sweetness. Peated expressions introduce smoke and maritime notes, and grain whiskies offer creamy texture and gentle sweetness. The overall impression is often more intense and expressive than standard distillery bottlings.

What sets the range apart
Several elements distinguish Whisky of Voodoo from other independent bottlings. Transparency sits alongside intrigue, with distillery, region, and age clearly declared while names and artwork retain a sense of mystique. Experimental cask finishing introduces distinctive layers of flavour, and small-batch bottling preserves individuality. Natural or cask strength presentation ensures full intensity, allowing drinkers to adjust dilution to taste.
How to enjoy Whisky of Voodoo
Because many bottlings are presented at high strength, adding a few drops of water can reveal hidden aromas and soften spice. Wine-cask expressions pair well with roasted meats or dark chocolate, while peated releases complement smoked seafood or strong cheeses.
For newcomers, a Speyside or Highland bottling offers a balance of fruit and spice. Islay expressions provide a more assertive smoky character.
A modern expression of independent Scotch
Whisky of Voodoo represents a contemporary approach to Scotch whisky – respectful of distillery character yet unafraid to experiment with maturation and blending. Through careful wood management, limited bottlings, and confident presentation, Brave New Spirits has created a range that invites exploration and offers an intriguing perspective on how cask influence can reshape familiar distillery styles.
