Westport 18 Year Old 2004-22 Wilson & Morgan Full Sherry Maturation 57.4% - 70cl

A single malt from the North Highlands of Scotland

Matured in a sherry cask for a classic old school cask strength single malt.

Nose: Dark chocolate, dried fruit, malt loaf, orange and meringue, roasted chestnuts, salted caramel and sweet red apples, as this dram opens in the glass, we find a rich rounded vanilla and fruit mix that is very tempting indeed.

Palate: Sweet and fruity from the start, some crazy sour sweets, soft peppery notes, hints of Scottish tablet, almond paste and strawberry give a hint of Bakewell tart, shortbread and chocolate nibs, tobacco leaf and plumb add a zesty and fruity note before we head into a lingering rich finish, smooth and bold with a hint of dark fruit and spices.

About Glenmorangie

Glenmorangie single malt Scotch whisky is one of the most celebrated Highland malts, known for its elegance, floral character, and pioneering approach to cask finishing. Founded in 1843 by William Matheson in the town of Tain, Ross-shire, Glenmorangie draws its name from the Gaelic Gleann Mór na Sìth, often translated as “Valley of Tranquillity.” Over the decades, it has built a reputation for consistency, innovation, and a refined house style that appeals to a wide range of whisky drinkers worldwide.

One of Glenmorangie’s defining features is its use of the tallest pot stills in Scotland, with necks reaching over 5 metres (16 feet). This allows for maximum copper contact during distillation, encouraging only the lightest and purest vapours to pass through, resulting in a delicate, aromatic spirit. The distillery’s water source is the Tarlogie Springs, whose mineral-rich water is filtered through limestone and sandstone over centuries, adding to the whisky’s distinctive texture and flavour.

For most of its modern history, Glenmorangie has been at the forefront of experimenting with different cask types. While initial maturation typically takes place in American oak ex-bourbon barrels (often crafted from slow-growth oak in the Ozark Mountains and used only twice), Glenmorangie has become a pioneer in extra maturation, or cask finishing. This involves transferring the whisky into a different type of cask for a final period of ageing, such as port pipes, sherry butts, or Sauternes wine barriques, to impart additional layers of flavour.

The core range begins with the Glenmorangie Original 10 Year Old, a benchmark Highland malt offering citrus, peach, and vanilla cream. The Lasanta adds richness through finishing in oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, while the Quinta Ruban gains depth and dark chocolate notes from port casks. The Nectar d’Or, finished in Sauternes wine casks, showcases honey, spice, and dessert-like sweetness.

At the premium level, Glenmorangie offers older age statements, limited editions, and rare single malts through its Private Edition series, often exploring unusual cask types and barley varieties. Annual special releases and experimental projects, overseen by Dr Bill Lumsden, Director of Whisky Creation, further cement Glenmorangie’s reputation for innovation.

Independent bottlings of Glenmorangie are rare due to tight control over cask stocks, but when they do appear, they tend to showcase the spirit’s naturally light, fruit-forward character in its purest form.

Flavour-wise, Glenmorangie is often described as soft, floral, and citrus-driven, with aromas of orange blossom, honeysuckle, and fresh peach. On the palate, it delivers a silky texture, sweet malt, vanilla, and gentle spice, with the cask finish variants adding richer notes of dried fruit, chocolate, or tropical sweetness. The finish is typically clean and elegant, making it an excellent choice for those who appreciate refined, balanced whisky.

Our Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Whisky selection includes the iconic Original 10 Year Old, the full range of cask-finished expressions, and limited releases that highlight the distillery’s creativity. Whether you’re discovering single malt for the first time or adding a Highland classic to your collection, Glenmorangie offers both tradition and innovation in every dram.
