About Springbank

Springbank is one of Scotland’s most revered and traditional distilleries, located in Campbeltown, a whisky region once famed as the “whisky capital of the world.” Established in 1828 on the site of Archibald Mitchell’s illicit still, Springbank remains family-owned by his descendants, the Mitchell family, making it one of the few truly independent distilleries in Scotland.

Springbank is unique in that it is one of the most self-sufficient distilleries in the world, carrying out 100% of its production on site — from malting the barley to bottling the final whisky. Only a handful of distilleries in Scotland still do their own floor malting, and Springbank takes this commitment to traditional methods further by using three distinct production styles under one roof: Springbank, Longrow and Hazelburn.

The distillery’s use of traditional floor maltings allows them to control the level of peat smoke during the kilning process, tailoring flavour for each style. Fermentation is long, often up to 110 hours, which encourages the development of fruity esters and depth of character. Distillation is done in small batches using copper pot stills, with unique cut points and techniques for each brand.

Springbank’s location in Campbeltown plays a crucial role in its whisky character. The maritime climate, with salty sea air and cool, damp conditions, imparts a distinctive coastal note during maturation. The distillery uses a variety of cask types, including ex-bourbon, ex-sherry, rum, and wine casks, all stored in traditional dunnage warehouses on site.

Flavour-wise, Springbank malts are known for their oily mouthfeel, earthy peat smoke, dried fruit richness, and subtle coastal brine. Longrow offers a bolder peat profile with charred oak and medicinal notes, while Hazelburn provides a delicate, grassy, and creamy alternative.

Springbank’s philosophy is resolutely anti-industrial. There is no chill-filtration, no added colouring, and every whisky is bottled with its natural character intact. This dedication to authenticity has earned Springbank cult status among whisky drinkers and collectors worldwide, with many releases selling out immediately upon release.

Our Springbank selection includes the core range and, when available, rare limited editions and single casks. Whether you’re exploring the subtle complexities of the 10 Year Old, the sherried richness of the 15, or the peat power of Longrow, Springbank offers a glimpse into whisky-making as it was done a century ago, hands-on, uncompromising, and rooted in place.
