Wildmoor
(2 products)
Wildmoor is a premium collection of high-aged blended Scotch whiskies introduced by the renowned family-owned company William Grant & Sons in 2024. Curated by Master Blender Brian Kinsman, the range draws upon the Grant family’s extensive private reserves, which have been accumulated over more than six decades. The brand represents a deliberate move into the ultra-luxury segment of the blended Scotch market, offering expressions that range from 21 to 40 years old.
Inspired by the Scottish landscape
The core concept behind Wildmoor is an homage to the untamed environments of Scotland. Each expression is designed to evoke a specific aspect of the natural landscape, from sweeping moorlands and ancient forests to rugged western coastlines. This thematic approach extends to the presentation, with heavily textured glass bottles designed to reflect the raw, weathered elements of the Scottish wilderness.
The art of blending and maturation
At the heart of the Wildmoor collection is a meticulous approach to cask selection and blending. Kinsman utilises rare malt and grain whiskies, masterfully combining Highland malts and Speyside whiskies with carefully selected Lowland grain components. A defining characteristic across the core range is the use of sherry casks for maturation or finishing. This technique imparts significant depth, complexity, and a naturally dark hue to the whiskies, creating a robust and cohesive profile across the different age statements.
The Wildmoor collection
The portfolio consists of seven distinct expressions, each offering a unique interpretation of the Scottish landscape. Among the notable releases is Dark Moorland, a 23-year-old blend that incorporates Highland and Speyside malts with Lowland grain whisky, finished in Oloroso sherry casks. Rugged Coast, a 30-year-old expression, takes its inspiration from Scotland's western seaboard, incorporating subtle elements of peat smoke to evoke the sea air. At the pinnacle of the range sits Black Mountain, a 40-year-old blend that showcases the depth and maturity of the Grant family’s oldest reserves.
Frequently asked questions
Who makes Wildmoor whisky?
It is produced by William Grant & Sons, the historic, family-owned Scottish distilling company responsible for some of the world's most famous single malts and blends (it owns distilleries including Glenfiddich and The Balvenie). The Wildmoor collection is specifically curated by its Master Blender, Brian Kinsman.
Are these single malts or blends?
All expressions in the current range are high-aged blended Scotch whiskies. They incorporate both malt and grain whiskies drawn from the company's extensive private family reserves.
Does the whisky use chill-filtration?
To preserve the complex oils and rich flavour compounds developed over decades of maturation, these premium expressions are typically bottled at higher strengths and without aggressive chill-filtration.
