Singleton of Dufftown 18 Year Old

A beautifully smooth expression here from the Singleton brand, aged for an impressive 18 years. It’s a quirky Speyside distillery because it’s wash stills are larger than its spirit stills. One of Diageo’s bigger malt sites, it has historically been reserved for blends. But the advent of The Singleton brand means we’re seeing more and more of Dufftown (alongside Glen Ord and Glendullan). Which is a very good thing, because this one’s delicious, like a toffee apple in a glass. The more the merrier!

Nose: Like an apple strudel along with buttery vanilla, caramel, hazelnuts, milk chocolate and a subtle herbal resin note.

Palate: Really rather smooth with a gentle pepper spice backbone. There’s more apple, marzipan, liquorice and a whisper of aniseed.

Finish: Medium to long with toasty oak and a return of the liquorice.
