Royal Brackla 13 Year Old 2009 Càrn Mòr American Oak 47.5%

A fascinating release from independent bottler Càrn Mòr, owned by Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers. It started life up at the Royal Brackla distillery, known for its lively, fruity whiskies. This is the result of a vatting of three separate American oaks casks, and it’s a tasty thing indeed. A must-try if you like a powerful whisky.

Nose: Immediately fruit-forward and bold, with loads of orchard fruits and jammy berries. A vanilla lift unites it all together.

Palate: More vanilla and shortbread initially, then sweet spices, citrus peels, brown sugar, apples, pears and raspberries.

Finish: Medium length with warming oak spices.
