Red Spot 15 Year Old is the newest addition to the revived 'Spot' range of Single Pot Still whiskies from Ireland's largest distillery, Midleton. This famous whiskey has its roots in the 1800s, when original owners Mitchell & Son matured their casks under Dublin's cobbled streets. They would mark the cask ends with spots of paint to categories them the 'Spot' concept was born.
This expression has been matured in a combination of ex bourbon, sherry and Marsala wine casks for a minimum of 15 years. It offers more complexity and age than the Green and Yellow Spot versions, exploring creative cask types to add intriguing depth of flavour.
Nose: Sweet citrus with caramelised orange and lemon, creamy and mellow vanilla, with fresh churned toffee, some cherry and mango notes, more soft fruity notes and a touch of light honeycomb.
Palate: Opening with some sweet fruits, apples and cream, with honey and soft ginger, the mid palate is extremally smooth and elegant with red berries and hints of fresh dates and red grapes, honey and demerara coated cashews with a touch of soft spice, a lingering rich flavour throughout the palate, with a nice influence from the wine and sherry casks.
