Family-owned Islay distillery Kilchoman has revealed the 14th edition of its 100% Islay release, and it’s a fascinating glimpse at whisky made from barley grown on the island. Distilled in both 2013 and 2014, the expression is drawn from 90% ex-bourbon casks and 10% ex-Oloroso. It’s been aged for nine long years, with the resulting single malt offering notes of butterscotch and vanilla, with a rich, fruity character – oh, and that Islay peat smoke packs a punch. Deliciously expressive whisky.
