Deanston Dragon’s Milk Stout Cask Finish 50.5%
Already a modern classic, the charmingly named Deanston’s Dragon’s Milk Stout Cask Finish is curious as it is delicious. It’s the result of an entrepreneurial partnership between the Highland Scotch whisky distillery and Michigan’s New Holland Brewing Company. And it’s wonderful indeed. New Holland has a flagship bourbon barrel-aged stout called Dragon’s Milk. The Deanston team tasted it, loved it, and used the casks that previously aged that beer to finish their whisky! A match made in flavour heaven. Bottled at natural colour with no chill-filtration.
Nose: Opens with crisp, sparkling apple, followed by a roasted maltiness, hops, and a floral honeyed note.
Palate: The mouthfeel is smooth, rich and caramel-forward, with more of that maltiness and an almost spicy vanilla. Then a rich woodiness comes through, and it’s all about that heavy stout. More fresh apple and a lively citrus provide a lift.
Finish: Long and pronounced, with a hint of malty chocolate
