About Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond single malt Scotch whisky comes from one of Scotland’s most versatile and technically innovative distilleries, located on the banks of the loch from which it takes its name. Established in 1965 by the former owners of the Littlemill Distillery, Loch Lomond was built with a unique production setup that allows it to create a remarkably wide range of spirit styles, from light and floral Highland malts to richly peated island-style drams.

The distillery sits near Alexandria, on the border between the Highlands and Lowlands, giving it access to a variety of influences in style and character. Loch Lomond’s water source is the Glen Finlas spring, which feeds pure, soft water into the distillation process. One of its defining features is its range of still types, including traditional copper pot stills, continuous stills, and distinctive straight-neck pot stills. The latter, equipped with rectifying plates, allow for precise control over reflux and spirit character, enabling the distillery to produce multiple flavour profiles under one roof.

This technical flexibility has made Loch Lomond a whisky blender’s dream, but it has also allowed the distillery to build a diverse portfolio of single malts under its own name. The whisky is typically matured in a combination of American oak ex-bourbon barrels, re-charred casks, and, in some cases, sherry or wine casks to add extra complexity.

The core range showcases this variety:
• Loch Lomond Original - a light, fruity entry-level expression with soft vanilla and orchard fruit notes.
• Loch Lomond 12 Year Old - a balance of fruit, honey, and gentle spice, made from both unpeated and lightly peated spirit.
• Loch Lomond Inchmurrin 12 Year Old - a floral, fruit-driven style from unpeated malt distilled exclusively in straight-neck stills.
• Loch Lomond Inchmoan 12 Year Old - a peatier, more robust style with smoke and earthy depth.
• Loch Lomond 18 Year Old - a richer, more mature expression with oak, spice, and tropical fruit.

Loch Lomond also produces heavily peated malts reminiscent of Islay whisky, as well as lighter Highland-style drams, making it one of the few distilleries capable of covering such a broad flavour spectrum. Special releases, cask strength editions, and age-statement whiskies up to 30 years old further highlight its range.

Independent bottlings of Loch Lomond are relatively rare, partly due to the distillery’s broad official portfolio, but when they appear they can show distinctive character, from vibrant, grassy bourbon cask examples to smoky, maritime bottlings.

Flavour-wise, Loch Lomond single malts vary depending on the style, but many share a core profile of fresh orchard fruit, malt sweetness, and a subtle floral lift. Peated versions add layers of campfire smoke, coastal brine, and earthy spice, while older expressions often develop tropical fruit complexity, polished oak, and honeyed depth.

Our Loch Lomond Single Malt Scotch Whisky selection includes the distillery’s diverse core range, unique island- and Highland-style bottlings, and rare limited editions. Whether you’re looking for a gentle, fruit-driven malt or a bold, smoky dram, Loch Lomond offers a uniquely versatile taste of Scottish whisky-making innovation.
