Chain Pier Milroy's Exclusive 57.8% 70cl

The last few remaining bottles from a very exciting, now-closed distillery – bottled exclusively for us!

Chain Pier was a very small maker, and the first in Edinburgh to produce single malt since the 1920s. Managed by the team behind John Crabbie & Co, the whisky was made using two tiny 500 litre copper stills. A whole day's production would barely be enough to fill two casks..! Before Chain Pier was dismantled, a total of 30 casks had been filled, making it a truly scarce, highly sought-after Scotch indeed.

This expression was distilled on 9 May 2019, and was fully matured in an Australian Shiraz cask. It was bottled just over three years later on 14 September 2022 at a hearty 57.8% ABV, with a deep, rich, tawny hue.

"We are delighted to bring this exciting collaboration to market," says Milroy's CEO, Jolyon Dunn. "From visiting Edinburgh to select the casks, to having active involvement in the design process, we worked closely with the team at John Crabbie & Co. on every aspect of this release.

"Chain Pier was an experimental maker and no longer in production. With only around 30 casks filled, this is possibly the rarest single malt Scotch whisky available under £100."

Tasting notes:

Nose: A rich and aromatic full-bodied nose with a smooth and fruity aroma. There's some toffee with a hint of spice, as well as sweet grape and forest fruit notes, balanced with sweet malt and rich oak.

Palate: The palate is perfectly balanced and opens with rich, robust and rounded sweet grape notes, alongside hints of orchard fruit and soft creamy toffee. Raisin and berry coulis follows. As the whisky opens up, hints of dark fruit, sweet and dry wood spice and vanilla pod roll out, alongside creamy toffee and fondant caramel.

Finish: Long and balanced, with ongoing layers of flavour.
