Benriach The Original Ten - 10 Year Old 43%

Speyside single malt distillery Benriach is back with its Original Ten bottling, making use of bourbon barrels, sherry casks and virgin oak. The use of three cask types results in a smooth yet complex dram, layered with honeyed orchard fruit and toasty oak notes. There’s also a subtle whisper of smoke adding an additional flavour dimension. It’s bottled at natural colour to celebrate the cask influence.

Nose: There’s apricot and pear on the nose, along with strawberry jam and a buttery vanilla sponge note. The subtle peat influence comes through as a smattering of earthiness.

Palate: The pear note becomes more stewed, and there’s Danish pastry and iced bun sweetness, too. A mocha coffee note comes through with slightly more prominent peat.

Finish: Medium length and lingering, with a return to earthy apricot.
